The film follows Ashitaka, the last prince of the Emishi people, who becomes cursed after killing a demon-possessed boar while defending his village. The curse on his arm threatens his life, so he leaves his home and travels west in search of a cure. On his journey, Ashitaka arrives at Iron Town, a human settlement led by Lady Eboshi, whose industrial activities are expanding into the surrounding forest. This brings her into conflict with the spirits and gods of the forest. One of the central figures in this conflict is San, a young woman raised by wolves whom humans call Princess Mononoke. Caught between humans exploiting natural resources and the forest creatures fighting to protect their home, Ashitaka tries to understand both sides and seeks a way for peaceful coexistence. His efforts to bridge the gap are met with hostility from both factions as tensions escalate.
